Quote 1: By Ishmael "Jumah and Moriba lived next to each other. RPGs had destroyed their houses during the attack. They had run toward the wharf to find their parents were nowhere to be found. They ran to the forest where their families had earlier hidden, but they weren't there either." page 79
Significance: This quote relates to question number 2. It relates to it because it talks about how hard the character's journey was getting to America, and why they wanted to go to America. It also talks about how horrible the war was in Sierra Leone.
Character Judgment: The character feels really sad because at first he wasn't trying to think about what happened, and finally he remembers and he starts to feel sad. I feel really bad for these characters because their family left them, and the characters tried to look for their families, but their families just straight up ditched them.
Question 1: Ehat do you think happened to Jumah and Moriba's families?
Quote 2: by Ishmael "As I was going down the hill, I heard gun shots. And dogs barking. And people screaming and crying. We dropped the bananas and began running in order to avoid the open hillside. A thick smoke started rising from the village. At the top of it, sparks of flames leapt into the air." page 93
Significance: This quote relates to question number 2. It relates to it because its talking about the various tasks that the characters go through. It also talks about what might happen to the characters and creates suspense.
Character Judgment: I think that the character feels really upset, because he was actually going to see his family again, but as if it was a nightmare for him his whole hopes came crashing down. I feel really bad for the character because i would like to see my family again after more then a year.

Responce: I think it is very sad that their families ditched them. It shows that families in other palces aren't as close as the families here.. I think we take for granted how lucky we are as Americans to have families that love and care for us.
Answer: I'm not sure if they ditched them or not. Maybe they got that Idea because the rebels might have taken them.
Respoce 2: It is extremely horrible that he was about to see his family and the rebels attacked the village. Ishmael had already been through so much and now this. I don't know how Ishmael survives.
Answer 2: I think his parents are probably dead because there was nothing left of the village after the rebels attacked. There is that slight possiblity that his parents are still alive but I doubt it.

Quote 1: I like your quote because it shows how suddenly the rebels took the city. It also shows how surprised and disorganized people were by the unexpected attack. I agree with you that the quote shows how the character's journey to America was, but I agree with you slightly when you said their families "straight up ditched them". I don't think their families intentionally lost them, it just happened in the commotion.
Question 1: I think Jumah and Moriba's families might have gone to the village where Ishmael's parents where, or maybe they went to a village near by. I think this because in the story it sounds like a lot of people from Matri Jong came to those villages. Sadly, the rebels attacked and burned many of those villages, and I think their families were probably one of the people who died.
Quote 2: I agree with you that it shows what the characters are going through. I especially agree with you about how suspenseful this moment was. I was hoping that his family and many others would be able to escape, but the rebels said that no one escaped.
Question 2: Yes, I do think Ishmael's parents are dead, because the rebel said no one survived. I suppose there is a very slim chance that his parents had moved to another town (and are safe), but, I still think that he will never really know.
Quote 1:
I think that this is a very powerfull quote. It really shows what paine people had to go thorugh durring the war and gives a good picture of how so many families were split up.
Question 1:
I think that their parents are most likely dead but I'm hoping that they are alive and are among the very few that escaped the clutches of the Rebels.
Quote 2:
This quote shows how desperate all of them were to stay alive. They were very hungry yet they dropped the only food they had to run away from the rebels. I think that any one would do that in their situtaion but they could have tried to run with the bananas.
Question 2:
I think that his parents are still alive and he will find them because I think that is the way he will make it to New York.
